About

Past

I grew up in northern Wisconsin and subsequently have lived in southwest Wisconsin, northeast Florida, North Carolina and southern California. After working a conventional job in the insurance industry for 14 years as an Actuary, I up and quit to take some time off, studied web development for a few years, but then found new passions in late 2010 in the world of wearable technology*. I’ve been living in the Boulder/Denver Colorado area since 2009.

Present

I split my time between being a freelance web programmer and exploring the world of Funktional Fashion*. In my spare time I – well, I’m not real sure what that means anymore… But some other things I like to do are blog, make things, explore, experience, laugh, learn, exercise, be active & be outdoors.

Future?

I’ve become entranced with the idea of adding electronics to clothing, and while practicality naturally whispers to me that I should forget these crazy ideas I have and go back to a more conventional kind of employment, I don’t seem to be listening! ;)

So what is wearable technology???

Or as I like to call it sometimes, Funktional Fashion – it’s adding electronics to clothing, which right now for me is mostly LEDs and related paraphernalia like microcontrollers, motion detectors, microphones and other sensors. Electro-luminescent wire (EL wire), LED strips, motors, etc. are also on the table. This field combines fashion, creativity, technology, coding and electronics into exciting, fun and tangible packages. eTextiles is a related term but since I am not fabricating textiles or fabric and most all my stuff is wearable, I usually stick with wearable technology.
